Air India Trims Narrowbody Flights Amid Safety Overhaul After Ahmedabad Crash

After the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that shocked the nation, the airline has decided to temporarily reduce some of its flight operations to improve safety. As part of a major safety review, Air India is cutting back about 5% of its narrowbody flights, which include many domestic and short international routes using Airbus A320 aircraft. This includes suspending routes like Bengaluru to Singapore and Pune to Singapore, along with reducing the number of flights on nearly 19 other routes.

The airline said these changes will remain in place until at least mid-July 2025 while they carry out deep safety checks on their aircraft and operations. This move follows an earlier cut of 15% in international flights involving larger aircraft.

Air India is also making changes to its flight paths to avoid risky airspaces over Iran, Iraq, and Israel due to rising tensions in the Middle East. The airline said it understands that passengers may face inconvenience, but these steps are being taken to protect travelers and ensure every flight meets the highest safety standards.

With this review, Air India aims to restore confidence among passengers and make sure its operations remain safe and reliable going forward.
